Eagles Grounded

Varsity vs Clinton HS on 8/25/2012 10:00:00 AM

After having their game stopped last Thursday evening due to excessive rain, the Eagles were looking to play in their first complete match against a formidable opponent, the Clinton Dark Horses, at the Battle of the Beach competition.  Unfortunately, the Eagles never got into sync and gave up two own goals early in the first half to put them back on their heels.  Clinton took control of the match and seemed to dictate the course on both offense & defense.  A late goal in the 1st half saw Clinton take a 3-0 commanding lead into the break.  The Eagles came out with more determination in the 2nd half and managed to generate some offense, but the swarming defense of Clinton kept the Eagles at bay, and the Eagles missed an open scoring opportunity when Junior Jose Torres (Aguirre) had his shot gathered up by the Clinton keeper.  Clinton put two more scores in late the half as the Eagles were making roster adjustments and moving players around to different positions.  It appears the Eagle Coaches and players will be back to the drawing board on Monday to review their formations and on the field performances, and make the necessary adjustments in preparation for their next match against the East Carteret Mariners.
