The pre-game warm-ups were subjected to a steady drizzle as the Eagles & Gators prepared to battle in a wet Eastern North Carolina evening match.  Minutes before kick-off, the skies opened up and a torrential downpour ensued.  The officials let the game begin and the players battled through heavy rain for 16 minutes before the center offical halted the match due to the heavy rain and water ponding on the field.  The Gators had scored a goal in the 7th minute when the Eagles defense was caught playing a little too high.  But the Eagles turned the goal into motivational fuel and began to assault the Gator goal.  The Eagles had 4 shots on the Gator goal after they were scored on and appeared to have the Gator defense opening up gaps as they too were playing high.  Two of the Eagle shots looked like they were going in, but ended up sailing just over the goal and the other went wide.  The Eagles ended up with the edge in shots, 6-1, and the match resulted in a draw, since the match did not reach halftime (NCHSAA soccer rules).  The Eagles look to make some minor adjustments tomorrow and get themselves ready for the Batlle at the Beach on Saturday, August 25th, where they'll face the Clinton Dark Horses.
